In Melbourne, the IN thing seems to be surrounded by all the hype of what can be found along the bustling graffiti lined laneways. One may find it fun to discover one of the many designer cupcake shops, hidden chic coffee and pastry cafe hangouts and packed fancy restaurants. Don't be fooled! Although many of these establishments are hidden even from the rays of the sun all year round, many of them are very high priced and would often appear in the travel guides. What you are paying for is the delicacy of what Melbournians would claim as the culture that surrounds their city. One might start a saying that goes, "This is our art and you get to eat it."
People love taking photos of graffiti
This is where the view opens up after traversing a mini rundown building with lots of dingy and tiny shops called, 'Australia on Collins'
The smell of their soup rivals my own
Belgium Waffle stand,
I'd reckon that it's cheaper than in Max Brenner
If I'm not mistaken, this is the original Cupcake shop.
Where all Melbournian cupcakes are born ;)
As you cross from laneway to laneway,
The price differs by about 50-100%

This are just a few shots that I've managed to capture seeing as I have been here for the entire summer. I have only started to recently conform to capturing some of the urban display of art. Perhaps over the change of the seasons, I'd be able to capture more quirky lighting. As Ken Rockwell says, if you can't get a good shot, do not even bother trying to take it. I find it interesting how there is someone else who believes this as well. There is no point having a tonne of junk and trash shots of repetition of the definitive BAD.
Anyway, I will post up some shots and reviews of the recent laneway cafes that I've eaten brekkie at soon. Happy Cap Goh Meh, everyone!
Photo info: Nikon D700, 17-35mm f/2.8. All shots here are taken hand-held with high ISO and long exposures. The harsh daylight is actually due to the morning light penetrating the buildings.
Please feel free to comment and discuss about anything, including talking to me directly on MSN or facebook.
Cheers.
Stout out!
